Blogging will be a bit light for the next week. My elderly parents had gone to visit relatives in Italy, and on the last day she fell and broke her leg in two places which must have been excrutiating.

She was due to have an operation on Monday, but this has been postponed until tomorrow. She may be able to fly back next week, but in the meantime, I have to try and sort out various things like moving a bed downstairs for her etc etc.

In the meantime, I also have to get the rest of my stuff out of my Edinburgh flat, and get more furniture for the Arbroath one.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. What a horrible thing to happen. I hope she is ok. You're a good son to take care of her. I wish her a speedy recovery... looking forward to hearing from you when you're a bit more settled.

Oh dear, what a shame. I hope the operation went well and she's starting to feel better. Must be so difficult for her thought as I presume she will have a cast?

Just over a year ago she fell and # her wrist didn't she?

I dont think we realise just how 'fragile' our ageing parents are getting, and that means having to admit too, that we are no longer in the first flush of youth either!

I am sure you will be able to shift beds about - you have done it before.

Hi Fox,

Thanks for your comment. I'll have to wait and see how the operation goes, then find out the best way to get her and my dad home again.

Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later.

Hey 1st L,

I think it will be difficult to get her back across, even though the flight is only an hour or so.

Both breaks are between the knee and ankle (on the same leg) so it won't be a full length cast which is a good thing.

She has various other age related ailments that are complicating matters though.

el jay,

Yes, you are right about the wrist break.

My mum in particular is a little unsteady on her feet these days, and you are right again, increasingly fragile.

Not sure what you mean about shifting beds though!
